President Obama meets SF partners M-KOPA and d.light

M-KOPA Deputy General Manager
June Muli explains the merits of their
pay-as-you-go solar home system
President Obama met with two of Shell Foundation’s partners – M-KOPA Solar and d.light – at this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Summit in July 2015, referencing their work during his visit to Kenya to promote access to affordable and clean power as a critical building block for sustainable growth.

In Nairobi the President reiterated his commitment to create 60 million new electricity connections through the US’s $7 billion pledge to “Power Africa”.  The Washington Post described him as “visibly impressed” by M-KOPA’s pay-as-you-go 40 cents a day solar home system. Later, the President stated that everyone in Africa should have the chance to own d.light’s new $5 lantern.
