Strategic Partners

We build partnerships across the social investment ecosystem (with a wide range of foundations, corporates, investors, development agencies, governments and NGOs) to support pioneer social enterprises on their journey to scale and sustainability.

Beyond these, we also form long-term partnerships at a strategic level to incubate new ideas, demonstrate the viability of market-based solutions and support the growth of new inclusive markets.

We are particularly grateful for the innovative work of the following organisations:

UKaid-(3).jpg The UK Department of International Development (DFID)
Building on our longstanding collaboration, SF and the UK Department for International Development launched a five-year partnership under DFID’s wider Transforming Energy Access programme in 2016. We aim to deploy £60 million (from both organisations) to create and scale pioneering energy enterprises and intermediaries that serve low-income consumers and small businesses in Africa.

In 2016, SF established a five-year combined $42 million partnership with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Power Africa to scale pioneering enterprises with the potential to significantly increase access to affordable renewable energy for off-grid households in Sub-Saharan Africa.

300x240_Img-3-(1).jpgScaling Off-Grid Energy (SOGE) is a development initiative founded by SF, USAID and DFID aiming to overcome supply/demand/market constraints in the off-grid energy sector to deliver clean, modern, affordable electricity to 20m African households. The founders and other supporters will align investments, identify opportunities to coordinate with African partners and provide the patient capital needed to unlock broad private sector financing to reach scale. At a country level, the partners will strengthen the off-grid energy ecosystem and policy environment to advance the goals/commitments made under the US and UK                                               flagship energy access initiatives Power Africa and Energy Africa.

The OPEC Fund for International Development and Shell Foundation have partnered since 2011 to innovate new routes to market for modern energy products such as affordable solar lights and clean cookstoves in rural Africa and Latin America – a major barrier to scale for energy enterprises serving low-income communities.
